Marauders win defensive battle over Spring Hill, 63-59
 
WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders defeated the Spring Hill Badgers, 63-59, on Monday night.

With the win, CSU improves to 9-14 overall with a 7-8 mark in SIAC play. SHC drops to 9-15 on the year with a 6-9 ledger in the conference.
 
After falling behind by a score of 21-5 at the 11:38 mark of the first half, CSU battled back to outscore SHC 22-6 to take a one-point lead with 2:31 remaining in the period. The teams traded defensive stops before a William Loyd basket gave Spring Hill and 29-28 lead at intermission.
 
The teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the second half before a Martin Oliver fastbreak dunk and a Frank Barber III make from beyond the arc put CSU up, 40-36. SHC evened the game, 44-44, at the 11:40 mark on baskets from Walter Massey. Neither team gained any separation from the other until the 7:42 mark as CSU guard Charles Ruise scored in the paint to spark a 9-2 run. Up 58-51 with 2:58 remaining, the Marauders held on for the win thanks to free throws from Ruise and a Davone Daniels dunk.

CSU forced 17 turnovers leading to 21 points scored off SHC giveaways.
 
Chris Scott led the Marauders with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Davone Daniels chipped in with 11 points. Jeremy Brown finished with 6 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
 
Loyd scored 16 points with 16 rebounds to lead the Badgers.
 
CSU will host rival Kentucky State on Thursday at 8 pm in the final home game of the season. 

 
 
Notes
With Saturday's results, CSU splits the regular season with SHC (1-1).
 
CSU seniors Frank Barber III, Jeremy Brown, Chris Cook, Davone Daniels, Sterling Gilmore were honored during Monday's pre-game.

Davone Daniels is converting over 40% of his three-point attempts. He has averaged 16.1 ppg in the last four games.

CSU remains in second place in the SIAC West Division standings. Lane leads the division with a 9-7 conference record.

Doors will open at 5 pm and will close prior to the beginning of the second half of the men's game

Food and drinks purchased outside of the facility are not permitted inside Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium.
