Late turnover pushes Paine over Marauders, 62-61

AUGUSTA, Georgia – The Central State Marauders fell in the final seconds, 62-61, to Paine College on Monday afternoon.

The loss drops CSU to a overall record of 1-12 with an 0-7 ledger in SIAC play. PC improves to 2-9 on the season with a 1-3 mark in conference play.

With the score knotted 18-18 midway through the first half, CSU mounted a 17-4 run capped off by a
Dreon Lewis basket and CSU went into halftime with a 38-26 lead.

The Marauders maintined a double-digit lead. With CSU up 47-36 at the 12:01 mark, PC manufactured a 11-0 run capped off by a three-point play from Charles Moore. PC took its first lead, 51-49, at the seven minute mark and maintained a narrow lead until three free throws from CSU's
Quinton Glaspie put the Marauders up 59-57 with 1:41 to play. On CSU's next possession
Tom Johnson added two more points from the line to give his team a four-point lead with one minute remaining. Moore hit from beyond the arc to pull Paine within one, 61-60. After a CSU turnover, PC's Charles Fairchild hit eventual game-winning jump shot. A last second shot from CSU's Johnson missed as CSU dropped its ninth straight game.

The Marauders struggled form the free throw line in the loss, making just 11 of 23 attempts.

Moore paced the Paine offense with 20 points. Fairchild added 14 points.

Dreon Lewis led all scorers with 26 points.
