Reserves lift Albany State to 66-61 win over the Lady Marauders
 
ALBANY, Georgia – The Central State Lady Marauders lost their fourth consecutive game, falling to the Albany State Golden Rams, 66-61, on Saturday afternoon.
 
The loss drops the Lady Marauders to 2-4 overall with an 0-1 ledger in SIAC play. ASU claimed its first win of the season, improving to 1-6 on the year with a 1-0 mark in the conference.
 
ASU jumped out to an early 18-11 lead thanks to a 10-2 run to close the first quarter. CSU bounced back by scoring the first 13 points in the second quarter capped of by a Jaeda Davis three-pointer at the 6:18 mark. The teams traded baskets in the final minutes of the half before Alexandra James knocked down a perimeter shot to give the Rams a 30-27 halftime lead.
 
In back and forth third quarter with four lead changes and five ties, ASU managed to keep a narrow lead, 49-47, heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
 
The game remained in the balance entering the final minutes of play. The Lady Marauders jumped up by one, 56-55, with 3:34 left on the clock. ASU reclaimed momentum with baskets from James and Kierra Ward on its next two possessions to take a 60-56 lead with 1:21 to play. ASU converted two of two field goals and five of seven free throws in the final 80 seconds to seal the five-point win.
 
A key factor in the outcome of the game was the play of ASU's bench players. Led by Shantrell Holland's 12 pints and eight rebounds, the ASU reserves combined for 39 points compared to CSU's seven bench points.
 
In addition to the contributions from their bench, the Golden Rams were paced by James' 14 points and three assists.
 
Davis led CSU's efforts with a game-high 20 points. Chervelle Cox finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Lady Marauders will continue conference play on Monday at Fort Valley State University.

Saturday's contest marked the fourth of eight straight road games for the Lady Marauders.
 
CSU guard Jaeda Davis recorded her fourth career game of 20 or more points as a member of the program.
 
CSU forward Chervell Cox recorded her third double-double of the season.
