Marauders lose on the road to Christian Brothers

JACKSON, Tennessee – The Central State Marauders lost to Christian Brothers University, 86-76, on Sunday afternoon.
Opening the year with a home-and-home series with CBU, the Marauders fall to 0-2 on the year while the Buccaneers improve to 2-0.
CBU's Adam Dieball accounted for nine of the first 11 points for the Bucs, scoring two layups and assisting on a Jacob Lyons layup and a Brad Miller three-pointer to help the Bucs to an early 11-4 lead.
CBU led by as many as 10 points in the first half.
CSU battled back with a 7-0 burst late in the first half  to narrow the deficit to three points after a Dwight Richards, Jr. layup with 45 seconds remaining.
The Marauders carried their momentum into the second half, beginning with a 9-3 run. Freshman Dorian Crutcher hit from beyond the arc to tie the game, 43-43, with 17:37 remaining.
Ultimately, the Marauders were never able to take the lead, but continued to keep the game close as CBU never led by more than four points until the Bucs exploded for a 10-0 run in just over a minute and a half, a run bookended by Dieball triples, with layups by Laravie and Dieball in the middle. By the time it ended, the Bucs led 63-53 with 11:03 remaining. From that point on, the Marauders were unable to make a significant run to cut into the lead.
The Bucs shot 54.4% from the field, including 38.7% from three-point range. CSU finished 44.4% conversion rate, including 36.4% from the three-point line.
The Marauders out-rebounded CBU 36-34, including a 15-7 edge in offensive rebounds.
Dieball posted game-highs of 24 points, eight assists and three blocks to go with five rebounds and two steals. Miller scored 18 with six rebounds and five assists. Laravie tacked on 16 with four rebounds and four assists.
CSU's Orion Monford paced the Marauders with a new career-high of 20 points. Monford made eight of 14 shot attempts and was four of seven from beyond the arc. Richards, Jr. finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Crutcher scored 12 points.
Point guard Tom Johnson recorded 11 points, six assists and eight rebounds.
CSU will travel to play Lake Erie College on Wednesday at 7 pm.
