Marauders unable to keep up in 41-20 loss to Miles College
 

FAIRFIELD, Alabama – The Central State Marauders fell behind early and suffered their second straight loss, 41-20, to Miles College on Saturday.

CSU's latest set back drops the team to an overall record of 2-4 with a 1-3 mark in SIAC play. MC picked up their first win of the year, improving to 1-5 overall with a 1-1 ledger in the SIAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
1st Quarter

At the 9:42 mark of the first quarter, Miles running back Justin Hardy put the Golden Bears on the board first with a 8-yard touchdown run to cap off a 8 play, 65-yard drive. (MC 7-0)

MC quarterback Daniel Smith found LeAnth Robinson for a 32-yard touchdown pass with 6:41 left in the first quarter. (MC 14-0)

Miles went up 21-0 at the end of the quarter as runner Santee Marshall crossed the goal line from 9-yards out to finish a 72-yard scoring driving. (MC 21-0)

 
2nd Quarter

After recovering a CSU fumble, MC marched 47 yards before settling for a 47-yard field to extend the lead to 24-0 with 8:46 remaining in the first half. (MC 24-0)

A field goal attempt by CSU kicker Trevor Teel was blocked by Maxel Wells with 1:12 left in the quarter. Miles ran out the clock and took a 17-point lead into intermission.

 
3rd Quarter

On the first possession of the second half, Miles increased their lead to 31-0 with a 10 play, 84-yard touchdown drive. Daniel Smith finished the drive with a 12-yard pass to Leonard Tyree. (MC 31-0)

CSU scored their first touchdown with 6:35 left in the third quarter. Quarterback Trent Mays recorded rushes of 10 and 13 yards to lead the Marauders on a 9 play, 66-yard touchdown drive. Teel added the extra point to cut the deficit down, 31-7. (MC 31-7)

Miles took just three plays to score on their next drive. Li'Jon Cordier completed a 61 yard pass to Malik Cambell. On the next play, Cordier found Mikhail Jacobs for a 23-yard touchdown with 4:54 left in the quarter. (MC 38-7)
 

4th Quarter

Miles added a 43-yard field goal at the 14:08 mark of the fourth quarter (MC 41-7)

CSU scored with 4:34 remaining in the game as Terraris Saffold ran for a 2-yard rushing touchdown. (MC 41-13)

On CSU's next drive, Mays completed a 21-yard pass to Bobby Gist III and marched CSU down to the MC 19-yard line. Receiver Darius Ford hauled in the 19-yard touchdown pass from Mays with 33 second left. (MC 41-20)


 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

CSU sophomore linebacker Kailen Abrams led the Marauders with 11 tackles. Abrams currently ranks second in the conference with 68 total tackles this season. MC's Austin Stephens leads the SIAC with 74 tackles this season.

CSU fumbled the ball three times with MC recovering the ball each time.

Mays finished his day completing 16 of 23 passes for 175 yards, one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown.

Saffold had 24 rushing attempts for 94 yards and one score.

Ford led CSU receivers with 4 receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown.

The MC offense combined for 413 yards. CSU totaled 325 yards of offense.

Miles leads the all-time series, 5-1, between the two schools.



UP NEXT

The Marauders will host North Carolina-Pembroke during Homecoming next Saturday (Oct. 13). Saturday will be the first time the two schools will play each other.
