Scott leads Marauders in 70-58 win over Lane College

Scott leads Marauders past Lane, 70-58

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders defeated the Dragons of Lane College, 70-58, in SIAC play on Thursday night.

With the win, CSU improves to 3-4 overall with a 2-1 ledger in SIAC play. The Dragons fall to 2-3 on the year with a 1-2 record in the conference.

In a game featuring two of the conference's top big men in CSU's Chris Scott and LC's Kendarius Ash, Scott outplayed his counterpart early on, making a midrange jumper and three-pointer in the opening minutes. While Scott was finding his groove offensively, Ash let his frustrations boil over as he picked up a technical foul and was forced to sit for the majority of the half with foul trouble. CSU took advantage of Ash's absence, building the lead up to as many as 14 before taking a 32-21 lead at intermission.

CSU maintained a healthy lead throughout the second half. Davone Daniels converted on the fastbreak to give the Marauders a 49-37 lead at the 9:19 mark. Lane responded by 9-3 run to cut the CSU lead down to 6 with 5:22 remaining. In need of a basket, Scott found an open Frank Barber III who calmly knocked down a 20 footer from the top of the key. With Scott leading the way, CSU scored on its next six offensive possessions to take a 63-50 lead with 1:47 to play. CSU closed out the game by hitting six free throws to secure the victory.

Scott led CSU with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Daniels added 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Ash finished the game as Lane's leader with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Brandon Dansoh recorded 11 points and 7 rebounds.

CSU forced 16 turnovers and outscored LC, 20-12, in points off giveaways. The CSU bench outscored the LC reserves, 19-11.

The Marauders conclude a five game home stand on Saturday when they host LeMoyne-Owen at 3 pm.
