Box Score Marauders drop season opener to Christian Brothers University
WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders lost their season-opener, 74-50, to Christian Brothers University on Friday night.
The Marauders converted just 30% from the field compared to CBU's 60% shooting performance.
CSU began the night on a high note, scoring the first 7 points. CBU quickly erased the CSU lead by the 9:48 mark of the first half. Brad Miller hit back-to-back three pointers later in the half and CBU built their lead up to 33-23 at intermission.
CSU came out with energy to open the second half as
Dwight Richards, Jr. sparked a 8-0 run. A
Sterling Gilmore basket cut the lead down, 38-36, at the 14:48 mark. CBU shooters responded by draining 9 straight field goals as the Buccaneers seized full momentum. A Joe Laravie three-pointer gave CBU a 63-44 lead with 4:40 left to play. The CBU lead ballooned to 26 points by the 2-minute mark after Miller struck again from three-point range and his teamed cruised to victory.
Laravie led all scorers with 19 points. Miller finished with 16 points followed by Luke Rudy's 15 point performance. The trio combined for 14 three-point field goals.
CSU was paced by
Davone Daniels' 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
Tom Johnson recorded 11 points and 4 rebounds.
CSU and CBU will meet again on Sunday in Memphis, Tennessee. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 2 pm cst.
