The Lady Marauders top UC-Clermont, 3-1
The Central State Lady Marauder fought hard in a highly contested 3-1 home court victory over UC-Clermont on Thursday night.
CSU started the night strong, scoring the first 6 points of the opening set. UC-Clermont quickly tightened things up and CSU had to fight for a 25-22 victory in the first frame. From that point on, momentum shifted numerous times throughout the evening as each team traded points.
The second set lasted 45 minutes with CSU finally putting UC-Clermont away, 34-32, as freshman
Michaela Powell picked up back-to-back kills to give her team a 2-0 lead.
UC-Clermont edged CSU in the third set, 27-25.
CSU appeared to be in full control with a 23-17 lead in the fourth set. UC-Clermont refused to go away going on a 6-0 run to knot the score at 23-23. Powell stepped up again for CSU, scoring the 3 of the Lady Marauders final 4 points to close out UC-Clermont, 27-25.
Powell finished with an impressive stat line of 33 kills, 16 digs and 3 blocks. Senior
Lakendra Worthy also contributed offensively with 14 kills.
Adaiah Johnson picked up a season-high 50 assists. With the victory, the Marauders improved to 6-17 overall.
CSU will travel to play at Urbana this Saturday at 2 pm. The match will be streamed live on
