Box Score Marauders fall to Morehouse, 72-57
ATLANTA, Georgia - Turnovers continue to plague the success of the Central State basketball team as the Marauders lost, 72-57, to Morehouse on Saturday.
The Marauders committed a season-high 27 turnovers. Morehouse took advantage CSU's miscues, holding a 29-6 edge in points scored off of turnovers.
Early on, the Marauders appeared to have the upper hand as they opened the game on a 7-2 run and slowly built their lead up to double-digits, 26-16, at the 7:04 mark of the first half. Suddenly, the CSU offense went cold and Morehouse outscored the Marauders, 20-5, to close the first half for a 36-31 lead at intermission.
Robert Konteh hit two quick baskets for the Marauders to open the second half but Morehouse responded with a 10-1 run capped off by a Omar Alston layup to give the Tigers a 46-36 lead at the 15:11 mark. After two free throws from
Frank Barber III made the score 46-38, an Alston dunk sparked a 10-0 run as Morehouse took control, 56-38, with 11:27 to go. 14 second half turnovers held CSU from making a significant run to cut into the Morehouse lead as the Tigers cruised to the eventual 15-point victory.
Four players scored in double-figures for Morehouse led by Alton's game-high 19 points. He also added 12 rebounds and 7 steals as Morehouse improved to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the SIAC.
Markese McGuire paced the Marauders with 15 points. Barber III finished with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Konteh had 10 points and 9 rebounds.
Dwight Richards, Jr. chipped in with 12 points off the bench but it was not enough as the Marauders dropped their sixth straight game.
Currently at 5-9 on the year with a 2-5 mark in conference play, the Marauders will return home for five straight home games beginning on Tuesday night when they face Washington Adventist University at 7:30 pm.
