Box Score Tuskegee Tigers claw past Marauders in overtime
WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders came up short, 63-62, in a thrilling overtime game against Tuskegee University on Monday night.
The Marauders got off to a quick start with an 11-2 run to open the game but Tuskegee narrowed the gap to just three by the 5:45 mark of the first half. CSU baskets from
Frank Barber III and
Robert Konteh helped the Marauders go back up by seven, 22-15, with 4:28 to go in the half. CSU's offense went cold for the remainder of the half as TU went on a 7-0 run to knot the game at 22-22 entering halftime.
The Marauders regained their form and held a lead for the majority of the second half. A fade away basket from
Markese McGuire gave the Marauders a 54-47 lead with 3:07 to play but the offense once again struggled to execute down the stretch, managing just one
Thomas Farrior free throw. While CSU struggled to score in the crucial moments of the game, TU went another run capped off by a Myles Thomas three pointer with 4 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
With 2:58 left in the overtime period,
Jeremy Brown scored to give CSU a 62-59 lead. Brown's basket would be the final time the Marauders would score. TU used two baskets from Joshua Culver, including the eventual game winner with 12 seconds left to go ahead 63-62. Poor execution plagued CSU's final possession as Marauder ball handlers fumbled the ball at mid-court and an off balanced shot from McGuire came up well short to end the game.
Tuskegee finished the night shooting 40.4 percent from the floor which included a 31.8% performance from beyond the arc. The Marauders shot just 32.3% from the field and 33.3% from three point range.
Thomas led the Tigers with 16 points. Travis Flagg added 13 points as the Tigers improved to 5-12 overall and 4-4 in the SIAC.
Dwight Richards, Jr. paced the Marauders with 17 points and 9 rebounds. McGuire had 15 points and 5 rebounds. The loss drops the Marauders to 6-11 on the season with a 3-5 ledger in conference play.
The Marauders will return to the hardwood of Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium on Wednesday night when they host Malone University. The Marauders will also be celebrating Military Appreciation Night. For game details, go to -
