Lady Marauders set to play Albany State in second round of SIAC Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -  With an impressive 79-51 win over Clark-Atlanta, the Central State Lady Marauders advanced to Thursday's second round of the SIAC Tournament to take on Albany State University.

Central State, the No. 3 seed in the SIAC West Division, have won four of their last five games and enter Thursday with a 14-13 overall mark. Earning a first round bye, Albany State enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed after going 14-12 in the regular season with an impressive 12-4 mark in conference play. A key to ASU's success this season has been forward Artisha Holston. Named the SIAC Women's Player of the Year, Holston averaged a double-double this season with 13.8 ppg and 10.2 rpg. She also ranked among the conference leaders in steals, blocks and field goal percentage.

The two teams met on Jan. 2 with Albany State downing Central State, 70-50. CSU Head Coach Sheba Harris talked about her team's growth since that time.

"We are a different team than we were a few months ago," said Harris. "We had a great team effort on Tuesday and everyone is finding a way to contribute. I expect our ladies to come out on Thursday with even more intensity than what was displayed on Tuesday. We know that Albany State is going to be ready to play and we will have to do a good job of finishing around the basket, rebounding and limiting our turnovers in order to be victorious."

The teams are scheduled for a 5:30 pm cst (6:30 pm est) tip at the Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, AL.
