Box Score No. 7 Saginaw Valley State tops Central State, 81-63

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Michigan - The Central State University Marauders were unable to keep pace with the seventh ranked Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State in Monday night's 81-63 loss.

The Cardinals used an 11-0 run midway through the first half to seize control of momentum with a lead of 30-15 at the 8:05 mark. CSU slowly sliced the SVSU lead down to 8 after a Robert Konteh basket but the Cardinals closed out the final two minutes on a 7-0 run to take a 45-30 lead at halftime.

The Marauders were unable to mount a serious threat to the Cardinals lead. Frank Barber III scored on a put back layup to bring CSU within 9 at the 12:03 mark. On the next possession, SVSU's Jake Daniels hit from beyond the arc to spark a 16-3 run to put the game out of reach. With the Marauder offense struggling to find its mark from beyond the arc, the Cardinals coasted to the 18-point victory.

SVSU converted 10 of 27 three pointer attempts compared to CSU's 0 for 17 performance from beyond the arc. The SVSU bench outscored the Marauder reserves 39-19.

Every SVSU player scored in the victory. Garrett Hall led the Cardinals with 17 points as SVSU improved to 11-1 overall.

The Marauders were paced by Markese McGuire's 18 points. Barber III finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds. With the loss, the Marauder fall to 5-5 overall.

The Marauders will be off until Dec. 30 when they resume SIAC play at home against Albany State University. Dec. 30 will mark CSU's first home game since Nov. 11.

Central State University is allowing free admission to all home basketball games throughout the holiday break which includes games on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.
