Fort Valley State hands CSU women third straight loss

FORT VALLEY, Georgia – Central State fell victim for the third straight game in a 68-52 loss to Fort Valley State on Monday night.

Trailing by just 4 after the first ten minutes of play, the Marauder shooters went cold in the 2nd quarter as FVSU managed to take control of the game. CSU scored just 1 point in the first 6 minutes of the quarter and outscored 22-4 in the period as FVSU took a 43-22 advantage into halftime.

The Wildcats maintained their double-digit lead throughout the 3rd quarter. Baskets by Aneisha Hardin and Jordyn Bond cut the FVSU lead to 52-39 heading into the 4th. CSU cut the lead down to single digits as a Lakayra Carlisle three pointer narrowed the gap to 57-48 with 2:15 remaining. FVSU quickly snatched any momentum CSU may have generated by scoring the games next 5 points and finishing on an 11-4 run to cruise to victory.

FVSU claimed decisive advantages in fast break points, 22-6, and points off turnovers, 34-18, as the Wildcats improved to 3-10 overall with a 2-2 mark in SIAC play. All five FVSU starters scored in double figures with Daknequa White leading all scorers with 16 points.

CSU fell to 3-7 on the year and are now 1-4 in conference play. Carlisle paced the Marauders with 12 points followed by 11 from Jordyn Bond.

"I was disappointed with our intensity tonight. We couldn't execute on either end of the floor," CSU Head Coach Sheba Harris said. "We have a lot of work to do leading up to Thursday's game against Clark-Atlanta."

Central State returns home to host Clark-Atlanta (3-9; 1-1) on Thursday at 5:30 pm. Admission to Thursday's game is free to all spectators.
