Box Score Chester heats up as Marauders beat Wilberforce, 93-84

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – In the battle of two HBCU institutions separated by just a few 100 yards, Central State took down Wilberforce University, 93-84, on Monday night thanks to a hot shooting night from senior guard Anthony Chester and great contributions from the bench.

Entering the night on a three-game losing streak, CSU fell behind early as a Patrick Mitchell free throw gave the Bulldogs of Wilberforce a 8-2 lead at the 15:21 mark of the 1st half. CSU quickly responded as Tom Johnson and Dymiere Finch came off the bench to help spark a 10-3 run. A Finch bucket at the 12:25 mark gave the Marauders a 12-11 lead and they never looked back. With Wilberforce still within striking distance, Chester was inserted into the game and hit four of five from beyond the arc to help CSU close the half on a 21-3 run to take a 42-24 lead into the locker room.

Tre' Edwards found momentum early in the second half, scoring 9 of CSU's first 14 points as their lead inflated to 24 at the 15:52 mark. Finch hit from beyond the arc with just under 10 minutes to go to give CSU its largest lead of the night, 69-43. After another Chester three pointer with 2:47 remaining, CSU appeared in control with a health 87-66 lead. WU fought back to cut the deficit to 8 in the final seconds of the game, but Chester added one more free throw to his stat line and CSU went on to win by 9.
The Marauder three point shooting converted 8 of 20 attempts compared to just a 2 for 23 performance from Wilberforce. Six of the Marauders' eight makes from the beyond the arc belonged to Chester, who finished with a career-high 19 points to lead all scorers.

Edwards finished with 17 points followed by Johnson and Finch, who each tallied 11 points. With the win, the Marauders improve to 6-9 on the season.
Wilberforce was paced by 13 points from Shawn Best, Jr. The Bulldogs fell to 9-11 overall.

The Marauders return to conference play this Thursday in Frankfort, KY against rival Kentucky State at 8 pm.
