Lady Marauders eclipse century mark in fifth straight win

WILBERFORCE, Ohio- The Lady Marauders earned their fifth straight win in a 110-38 thrashing over the Mustangs of Marygrove College on Monday night.

Eclipsing the century mark for the first time this season, every player scored for CSU with seven players finishing in double-figures. The Lady Marauders scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back. CSU used runs of 15-3 and 14-2 to take a 33-7 edge at the end of the first quarter and ballooned their lead to 58-14 by halftime.

Kourtni Perry and Sierra Harley accounted for the first 12 points scored in the third quarter and CSU end the frame on a 15-4 run to take a 82-23 lead into the final 10 minutes. With the outcome of the game predetermined by the start of fourth, a good layup from Destinee Russell put the Lady Marauders over the 100 point plateau. With 3:18 left on the clock, CSU cruised to the lopsided 72 point victory.

Monday's win was the largest margin of victory since Head Coach Sheba Harris took over the team in 2009. It was also the least points given up by a Lady Marauder team since a 72-29 win over Elizabeth City State in 2010.

Perry finished with a team-high 14 points in just 16 minutes of play. Russell, Aneisha Hardin, Meshia Smith and Falon Edwards each came off the bench to finish with 11 points. Jordyn Bond finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds as the Lady Marauders climbed back to .500 on the season with an 8-8 ledger.

Marygrove's lone bright spot was the play of Teonna Pope, who scored a game-high 19 points. The loss dropped the Mustangs to 4-18 on the season.

The Lady Marauders will attempt to extend their winning streak when they travel to Frankfort, KY on Thursday for a showdown with rival Kentucky State. The two teams will tip-off the action in the Exum Center at 6 pm.
