ALBANY, Georgia – After a sixteen day layoff between games, the Central State Marauders fought for a 69-64 road win over the Rams of Albany State on Saturday night.

CSU's defense would prove to be crucial in the victory as the Marauder pressure forced ASU into 28 turnovers which led to  36 Marauder points on the other end of the floor. In what CSU head coach Joseph Price characterized as a total team win, CSU received crucial baskets from Robert Konteh, Tre' Edwards and Jeremy Brown down the stretch. Akil Cornish came off the bench to hit two shots from beyond the arc to help CSU maintain their lead.

"We did not have a great shooting night overall but everyone on the team contributed in tonight's win," Price said. "I thought we did a tremendous job of forcing turnovers and getting after loose balls. Having said that, we are really going to have to find a way to shoot better as we move forward."

Despite a lackluster 28 for 71 shooting performance from the field, nine of eleven CSU players scored on Saturday. Point guard Sterling Gilmore paced the team with 13 points to go along with 7 assists. Edwards finished with 11 points and 3 steals. Konteh and Hosie Smith Jr. anchored down the CSU front court with 10 points each as CSU improved to 2-2 in the SIAC and 2-5 overall.

"We are going to need to do a better job of rebounding and converting on high percentage shots if we expect to find success against a talented team in Fort Valley State on Monday night," Price reiterated. "Our ultimate focus is to end this road trip on a high note and climb back over .500 in the conference standings."

CSU concludes their Georgia road trip against Fort Valley State (2-2; 2-7) on Monday night at 7:30 pm.
