Box Score Lady Marauders power past Miles in 68-56 winÂ
FAIRFIELD, Alabama - In the first of three road games in the state of Alabama, the Lady Marauders of Central State University used a big second quarter to power past Miles College in a 68-56 road victory on Thursday night.
After falling behind by five after the first 10 minutes of play, CSU manufactured a 15-0 run midway through the second quarter to take a 30-20 lead. During the run, CSU center
Kourtni Perry scored 8 straight points as CSU seized control. A good layup byÂ
Aneisha Hardin at the end of the half gave CSU a 32-21 lead going into the locker room.Â
While the 15-0 second quarter run was crucial in the outcome, it was the CSU defense that kept Miles from making any significant run in the second half. CSU held Miles to just 38% shooting in the final 20 minutes and forced 7 turnovers. Miles also struggled to a 15-29 second half performance from the free throw line as CSU led by double-figures for the majority of the game.
Perry was an efficient 7 for 12 from the field to lead all scorers with 16 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds to record her sixth double-double of the season. In just her second game in a CSU uniform,Â
Sierra Harley continues to impress. The point guard finished with 15 points, converting 9 of 10 free throw attempts.Â
Jordyn Bond chipped in with 13 points and 7 rebounds as CSU improved to 5-8 on the season with a 2-5 ledger in SIAC play.
"Sierra opened things up for Kourtni in the post and Jordyn had better looks at the basket," said CSU Head Coach
Sheba Harris. "The three seem to playing well together and we remain hopeful that we can continue to build of our last two wins."
Morgan Hardy finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for Miles. With the loss, Miles fell to 8-6 overall and are now 3-2 in conference play.
Central State will have little time to celebrate Thursday's victory as the team will have a quick turnaround to play at Tuskegee University (1-11;0-4) on Saturday.
