BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - After a rough start to the 2015 campaign, the Lady Marauders found success with a string of victories to close out the SIAC West-Round Up on Saturday afternoon.

Losing the first four SIAC matches to Spring Hill, Stillman, Miles and Tuskegee, Central State snatched its first victory ever in SIAC competition with a 3-0 triumph over Lane College thanks to scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-19. Lakendra Worthy and Keyshiana Fennicks led the Marauder attack with 8 kills each. Domanica Thompson finished with 7 kills.

"It was very exciting to finally get a win," CSU coach Quiona Boffman said. "It made the long trip worth while."

With little time to celebrate, CSU edged Lemoyne-Owen College in the final match of the afternoon to salvage two wins on the trip to Alabama. CSU got out to a early 2-0 lead thanks to 25-19 and 25-16 wins in games one and two. The Magicians turned the momentum around with a 25-14 win in the third and a 25-23 win in the fourth game. Central State regained its composure to win the final game, 15-12, and the match, 3-2. Fennicks led CSU with 12 kills while Worthy and Brea Lowe each finished with 7 as the Marauders improved to 2-5 on the season.

Central State returns to the state of Ohio to play UC-Clermont on Thursday at 7 pm. Designated as a home match for CSU, the contest will be played at Cedarville University while renovations on the Beacom/Lewis floor continue.
