Box Score CSU's season ends with loss to Kentucky Wesleyan in G-MAC semifinalsPHILIPPI, West Virginia -Â Central State suffered a season ending 82-65 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference semifinals on Saturday.
It was truly a tail of two halves as CSU's guards got off to a hot start. Harmon led all scorers in the first stanza with 9 points.
Tre' Edwards and Ra"Chaun Thompson scored 8 points each as CSU closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 33-27 lead into the locker room.
CSU remained in front until 12:53 of the second half when KWC's leading scorer Ken-Jah Bosley hit from beyond the arc to tie the game at 43-43. Bosley's three sparked a 20-3 run over a span of 7 minutes as the Panthers took a 60-47 lead with 5:35 remaining. Bosley and CJ Blackwell combined for 29 points down the stretch while CSU struggled to manufacture points on the other end. KWC converted 13 of 15 free throws in the final 3:00 minutes to help seal the victory.
The Panthers also took advantage of CSU's 17 turnovers, holding a 31-14 scoring advantage of Marauder miscues.
After a solid first half, Thompson and Edwards were held to just 5 combined points. Forwards
Jeremy Brown and
Raheem Lemons were held in check throughout the night, combined for just 3 field goals and 5 rebounds.Â
Harmon finished the game with 20 points on 6 of 12 from the field but his performance was bested by Bosley's game-high 23 points while Blackwell finished with 17.
Central State ends the season with a 18-12 overall mark. Kentucky Wesleyan advances to Sunday's conference championship and will play the winner of the Alderson Broaddus - Trevecca Nazarene contest.
