Cedarville stings Marauders in final game of regular season

1910Wilberforce, OH - Another chapter to the "Greene County Rivalry" played itself out as Cedarville topped Central State, 57-56, in the final game of the regular season.
 
With the win, Cedarville finished the season on a 3-game winning streak. The Yellow Jackets improved to 9-5 in the G-MAC with a 13-15 overall mark. CSU finished the regular season with a 17-11 record and a 9-5 ledger in conference play.
 
After honoring seniors from both teams during pregame, Cedarville jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. The Marauders answered1912 with a 12-2 run to take a 15-9 lead with 10:27. The Marauders built there lead to as many as 10 in the first stanza as a Raheem Lemons layup gave CSU a 27-17 lead at the 2:09 mark. CU's Austin Pickett converted from beyond the arc to cut the lead down to 7 but a Derrod Blakey basket gave CSU a 29-20 lead at half.
 
CSU managed to lead for most of the second half, clinging to a 53-46 lead with 6:50 to go. From that point on, the Marauder offense stalled as Cedarville senior Marcus Reineke scored 9 of his teams' final 11 points, hitting back-to-back threes to give Cedarville a 57-53 lead with 56 seconds left. CSU senior Ra'Chaun Thompson hit from the top of the key to cut the lead to 1 with 43 seconds to go. After a Cedarville miss at the line, CSU had a chance to take the lead with 11 seconds to go. The ball found its way inside to Lemons who missed on a contested dunk attempt with 4.5 seconds on the clock. Another Cedarville miss at the line, gave CSU one last chance but a missed shot as time expired from Masceo Harmon would seal the Marauders fate.

Reineke, the conference's leading scorer, finished with a game-high 22 points. Pickett contributed to the Yellow Jacket win with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
 
Playing in his last home game for CSU. Lemons led the Marauders with 12 points and 12 rebounds. It was the forward's fifteenth double-double performance of the season. Junior Tre' Edwards finished with 10 points and 2 steals.
 
Cedarville and Central State will both head to next week's Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament in Philippi, WV. CSU enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Ohio Valley on Thursday at 5 pm.
