Box Score CSU shooters struggle in loss to Alderson Broaddus

Philippi, WV - The Central State Marauders lost its opening game of G-MAC play to Alderson Broaddus. CSU struggled to knock down the outside shot and had a poor performance from the free throw line in the 68-57 road loss on Thursday night.

In a back and forth first half which featured 4 lead changes, the Battlers took a 27-24 lead into half thanks to a 3 pointer from Paul Williamson. The Battlers opened up the second half by converting 3 of their first 4 shots from beyond the arc to help balloon their lead to 8 with 16:34 remaining. The Marauders fought back to tie the game at 40 thanks to a 10-2 run sparked by 5 points during the run from Sterling Gilmore. Unfortunately for the Marauders, they would be unable to build on their momentim. From the 12 minute mark on, CSU struggled to find rythm from the 3 point line, converting just 1 three pointer on 11 attempts. Meanwhile, the Battlers' Ron Miller converted 2 of 2 from beyond the arc while the front court combination of Richard Lemon, Thylas Perkins and Malcolm Tatum combined for 22 points down the stretch as the Battlers improved to 9-5 on the season and 3-1 in the G-MAC.

Perkins led the team with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Perkins finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Tatum followed with 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Despite a game high 18 points and 13 rebounds from senior Raheem Lemons, Central State was unable to overcome a 4 for 21 three point shooting performance and a lackluster 5 of 10 conversion rate on free throw attempts.

Falling to 7-6 overall, CSU will travel to Davis & Elkins on Saturday in search of its first conference win of the season.
