Harmon scores career high 43 to lift CSU over Cedarville

Box Score Cedarville, OH - Senior Masceo Harmon had a career high 43 points to lead Central State to a 95-85 road win over Cedarville on Saturday night.

Harmon's 43 are the most scored by any player in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference this season while his team improves to 13-8 overall. At 5-2 in conference play, CSU kept pace in the race for the top spot in the conference with Alderson Broaddus (7-2) and Kentucky Wesleyan (5-2). Cedarville, which had its three game winning streak snapped, fell to 4-3 in the conference and 8-13 on the season.

Harmon's first basket came on a three ball at the 15:43 mark of the first half. He would go on to score the game's next 11 points in just 1:18 time frame to put CSU up 20-13. Another basket by Harmon at the 5:32 mark gave CSU a 40-28 lead. Cedarville battled back with a 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 4. Two three pointers from CU guard Marcus Reineke cut the Marauder lead to 43-42 at halftime.

Cedarville maintained momentum through the early part of the second half and led by 6 with 11:05 remaining. A layup and made free throw by CSU junior forward Hosie Smith Jr. brought CSU back within 1 with 9:47 to go. Raheem Lemons gave CSU the lead for the first time in the half on the next trip down the floor. The teams traded baskets over the next 4 minutes. Harmon sparked a 8-0 CSU run, making his 9th three pointer of the game with 4:16 left to put his team up 80-76. Baskets by Tre' Edwards and Sterling Gilmore put CSU up 87-78 with 2:00 left on the clock. CSU knocked down 8 of 10 free throws and held Cedarville to just one field goal in the final minutes to seal the victory.

After missing two free throws and a layup in the final seconds of Monday's 75-73 loss to Kentucky State, Harmon bounced back by converting  15 of 22 field goals, including 9 makes from beyond the arc. He also tacked on a team high 3 steals. Lemons finished with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Edwards had 12 points and tacked on 5 assists. CSU forced 13 Cedarville turnovers, scoring 23 points on CU giveaways. 

"Masceo played like a true professional today," CSU head coach Joseph Price said. "After a lackluster performance on Monday, he bounced back and redeemed himself with an awesome display of leadership tonight."

Central State returns home to host Davis & Elkins (6-13; 2-7) on Thursday at 7:30 pm.
