Marauders sail past Salem International to extend winning streak

Six players score in double-figures in 96-76 win

Box Score Salem, WV - The Central State offense was firing on all cylinders in Thursday night's 96-76 road win over Salem International.

With the win, the Marauders extended their longest winning streak of the season to five games. CSU improved to 12-6 overall and are now 4-1 in G-MAC play. The recent winning streak has propelled the Marauders to a tie for the top spot of the G-MAC standings with Alderson Broaddus.

En route to their highest offensive output of the season, CSU shot over 50% from the field. Salem International claimed an early 13-8 lead at the 15:13 mark of the first half but CSU responded with a 9-0 run, taking the lead at the 13:34 mark. The MarauderS never trailed from that point on. Coach Joseph Price's bench erupted with 32 points led by forward Hosie Smith Jr. and guard Jay Miller. Smith Jr. was a perfect 6 of 6 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free throw line on his way to a season best 16 points and 7 rebounds. Miller contributed 12 points off the bench in just 12 minutes of play.

Reigning G-MAC Athlete of the Week Masceo Harmon led the team with 19 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. Raheem Lemons contributed with 13 points and a team-high 9 rebounds. Tre' Edwards went 5 of 7 from the field to finish with 12 points.Sterling Gilmore and Jeremy Brown each chipped in with 10 points as the Marauders cruised to the victory.

A major reason for the near century mark performance was CSU's improved shooting from the free throw line. Statistically ranked last in the G-MAC in free throw percentage, the Marauders managed to put together their best performance from the line all year, going 19 of 21.

"Tonight was a total team effort," Price said."When we knock down our free throws, we are a tough team to beat."

Salem International was paced by a game-high 24 points from Tyler Bell. The Tigers fell to 2-13 on the season with a 0-6 mark in the conference.

The Marauders will attempt to win their sixth straight game when they return home on Saturday to host Ohio Valley (3-10; 3-3) at 4 pm.
