Box Score Masceo Harmon leads balanced CSU scoring attack in 70-63 win over Lemoyne-Owen

Wilberforce, OH - The Central State Marauders climbed back over .500 with a 70-63 win over Lemoyne-Owen College on Tuesday night.

After trading baskets through the majority of the first half, the Magicians finished the opening stanza on a 8-0 run to take a 36-29 lead at the break. The Marauders fought back early in the second half, narrowing the gap to 1 after a made Masceo Harmon 3-pointer from beyond the arc at 16:09 mark.Lemoyne-Owen responded with a 10-3 run thanks to the shooting of Daequon Mitchell-Fields and Marcel Hawkins to claim a 49-43 with 12:03 left. From that point on, CSU was able to chip into the Magicians lead and eventually overtake their SIAC opponent. A steal by Harmon led to an easy layup for Antone Byrd which gave CSU a 52-51 edge at 8:42. Byrd scored again on the next possession, coming up with a steal of his own and converting two free throws at the other end. Forward Raheem Lemons, who had his share of struggles from the line earlier this season, was a perfect 7-7 on Tuesday including 5 makes down the stretch. Jay Miller put his team up 5 with a big 3 point basket in the left corner with 4:44 remaining on the clock..

"Jay continues to shoot the ball well," CSU head coach Joseph Price said. "That was a big time shot and gave us some momentum to finish the game."

The Magicians made one last run, cutting the Marauder lead down to 64-63. Byrd came up big for CSU again on the next possession, knocking down a 20 footer. On the next Lemoyne-Owen possession, Tre' Edwards stripped the ball from Mitchell-Fields at midcourt. Edwards steal led to a Lemons put back basket on the other end, giving CSU a lead of 6 with 31 seconds to play.The Magicians came up empty on their next possession as the Marauders went on to win 70-69.


Harmon led all scorers with 18 points, 15 coming from beyond the arc. Lemons, who battled through an injured ankle, finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Byrd and Miller led the CSU bench with 11 points each. Edwards chipped in with 10 points, 6 rebounds and tied Harmon for a game-high with 3 steals.

Lemoyne Owen had 4 players finish in double figures led by Timothy Ware's 13 points. The Magicians dropped to 2-4 overall on the season.

The 5-4 Marauders will be back in action on Saturday when they host Ohio Midwestern at 3 pm.
