Box Score Ashland, OH - After a a difficult 76-75 loss to Tiffin last weekend, Central State was unable to bounce back, falling 60-43 to Ashland University on Friday night.
The Marauders were able to take a 15-8 lead midway through the first and clung to a 29-27 edge at half. G-MAC Player of the Week
Masceo Harmon carried the CSU offense with 10 first half points.
In a relatively slow start to the second stanza, the Marauders maintained a 33-30 lead with 16:22 left. Both teams found difficulty on the offensive end until Ashland's Wendell Davis broke the drought at 13:22. The Eagles proceded to go on a 14-1 run to take a 44-34 lead with just under 9 minutes to go. Coming off the bench, Marsalis Hamilton scored 6 of his 12 points to spark the Ashland run.
CSU would be unable to answer with a run of their own, falling down by as many as 20 with just over 1 minute remaining and suffering the eventual 17 point loss.
Harmon was the only Marauder to reach double figures, finishing with 14 points. Forwards
Raheem Lemons and
Hosie Smith Jr. finished with 6 points a piece. CSU struggled from the field and had difficulty getting to the free throw line. The team combined for 32.7% conversion rate from the field and made just 3 of their 8 free throw attempts.
Improving to 4-0, Ashland was led by Davis' 18 points and 16 rebounds. Hamilton followed with his 12 points. The Eagles held a 47-25 rebound advantage over the Marauders, contributing to a 17-4 edge in 2nd chance points.
Opening the season on the road against three GLIAC schools, the Marauders will play infront of their home crowd for the first time on Tuesday when they host rival Kentucky State University at 8 pm.
