Head Coach Travis Lewis is proud to announce the addition of Shyheim Small to the Central State University men’s basketball coaching staff. A native of Dunn, North Carolina, Coach Small brings a well-rounded background in player development, scouting, and basketball operations at both the NJCAA and NCAA levels.
Small began his collegiate coaching journey as a Graduate Assistant at North Carolina Central University, where he played a key role in player development, film analysis, and game preparation. His keen eye for detail and commitment to excellence quickly elevated his presence on the bench.
He went on to serve as the Video Coordinator at Northern Kentucky University, where he was responsible for film breakdown, scouting reports, and organizing practice and game plans—helping to shape strategy and elevate team performance in the competitive Horizon League.
Most recently, Small served as an Assistant Coach at Jones College, where he was instrumental in recruiting, player skill development, and overseeing the program’s daily operations.
A dedicated student of the game, Small holds a bachelor’s degree in sports science from North Carolina A&T State University and a master’s degree in sport management from North Carolina Central University.
Coach Small brings energy, intellect, and a relentless work ethic to the Marauder program. His diverse coaching experience and deep understanding of the game make him a key asset as Central State continues to build a championship culture on and off the court.
