Central State Athletic Director Kevicia Brown is proud to welcome Jamal Johnson as the new Director of Strength and Conditioning. Johnson brings over 15 years of strength, conditioning, and athletic performance experience across the collegiate, high school, private training, and professional development levels.
Most recently, Johnson served as Assistant Director of Football Performance at Tusculum University, where he developed and implemented sport-specific training programs for football and track & field. Prior to that, he worked as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Alabama State University, contributing to the development of student-athletes across multiple sports.
Johnson’s career also includes high-impact roles at The Ohio State University and the University of Tennessee, where he completed extensive internships working with elite NCAA Division I programs. His earlier career included time as a football coach and strength coach at the high school level, as well as owner/operator of his own training facility, No Excuses Training Center.
A proud United States Air Force veteran, Johnson served as a Senior Airman and Munitions Expert from 2004–2008, bringing discipline, leadership, and a service-first mentality to every role he undertakes.
Throughout his career, Johnson has specialized in biomechanics, strength and conditioning, sports psychology, team motivation, and wellness programming. His leadership style emphasizes discipline, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to helping student-athletes reach their highest potential—on and off the field.
