Box Score Marauders Earn Third Straight Home Win with 63–52 Victory Over Savannah State
WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State women's basketball team continued its strong play at home, earning its third consecutive victory at Beacom/Lewis Gym with a 63–52 win over Savannah State on Wednesday evening.
The Marauders set the tone early, opening the game on a 21–10 first-quarter run while shooting an impressive 71.4 percent from the floor. Central State maintained control through the second quarter and carried a 37–33 lead into halftime.
Savannah State made a push in the third quarter, trimming the margin as both teams traded baskets in a tightly contested period. However, the Marauders responded with a composed fourth-quarter performance, outscoring the Tigers 14–6 to secure the victory.
Ma'Kayla Williams led all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting, adding two three-pointers to pace the Central State offense. DeZarae' Stewart followed with 13 points, while Samara Gibson was perfect from the field, going 4-for-4 for eight points and dishing out five assists.
Central State showcased its depth with 21 bench points, highlighted by Calyanna Cage's seven points and Ashyia Maddickes' five points and five assists. Mikayla Young provided a spark inside, finishing with six rebounds and five points off the bench.
The Marauders shot 50 percent from the field and held a 40–26 advantage in points in the paint. Central State also capitalized on Savannah State turnovers, scoring 21 points off miscues.
With the win, Central State improves to 5–16 overall and 4–14 in SIAC play, while Savannah State drops to 7–10 overall and 6–10 in conference action.
Central State will look to keep its home momentum rolling as SIAC play continues this week at Beacom/Lewis Gym.
