Greene County Family Feud
The Central State University was established in 1887 and is the only public Historically Black College and University located in the Buckeye state, O-H-IO. Originally established as a two-year program focused on teaching and industrial training housed inside the nations first college to be owned and operated by African Americans, Wilberforce University. As in most family situations the cousins' internal feud led to a split in 1947 with Central State University gaining its historic and glorious name in 1951.
Tonight, this rivalry culminated across the narrow strait of pavement separating Marauder Land from the grassy abyss where the Wilberforce Bulldogs roam. The first quarter scoring for the Lady Marauders was spread out as
Diamond Phillips (Warren, OH),
Dashanti Miller (Sandusky, OH),
Zhieyah Rolack (Dayton, OH),
Tamai Mancuso ( Vallejo, CA), and
Jacquel Bronaugh ( Dayton, OH) all plundered from the Dog Pound. Both teams turned the second quarter into a defensive struggle as both teams shot under 40% from the field. The Lady Marauders were able to dominate the paint with 12 second chance points and 8 points in the bowls of the opponent's basket. The second half culminated with The Lady Marauders taking a slim one-point lead into the locker room.
In the 3
rd quarter Tenacious
Tamai Mancuso caught fire hitting six shots, grabbing 4 rebounds, while adding one assist. Similar to the end of the second half this quarter also ended with the Lady Marauders topping the home team by one point. As the final period began to unfold so did control of the basketball as the Lady Marauders uncharacteristically gave up 18 points of turnovers, 18 points in the paint, and 4 points off the fast break.
While the Lady Marauders bench scoring improved in the second half the defensive and rebounding woes ultimately lead to a self-inflicted loss with the final score of 56-48. Leading scores for the game were
Tamai Mancuso with 11 points followed by
Abbigail Peterson and
Dashanti Miller with 7. The Lady Marauders set sail for Columbia, South Carolina January 2 as they face conference foe Benedict College at 5:30 pm.
