Box Score Central State uses strong second half performance in 71-66 win over Wilberforce

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – In a historic rivalry of HBCUs sharing the some town of Wilberforce, Ohio, the Central State University Lady Marauders defeated the Wilberforce University Bulldogs, 77-61, on Wednesday night.

CSU improves to 10-13 overall with the victory while Wilberforce falls to 4-22 on the year.

CSU jumped out to a 20-13 start by the end of the first quarter. WU opened the second quarter on a 13-3 run and led by as many as five midway through the period. CSU responded with a 9-3 run to end the half to take a 34-33 lead into the locker room.

CSU gained separation in the third quarter. Up by five, CSU senior Laurne Tere converted the traditional three-point play and the Lady Marauders went on to outscore WU, 22-7, in the quarter.

Up 54-40 entering the fourth quarter, the Marauders took full control with a 13-0 scoring run to up their lead to 25 with 3:46 to play. CSU cruised to the victory down the stretch, winning by 16.

CSU was an efficient 27 of 34 from the free throw line while WU managed 12 trips to the line and made seven attempts.

Sophomore
Kailyn Nash led CSU with 20 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and four blocks.
Layla Turner provided a spark off the bench with 15 points.

Kadai Greene-Tucker led WU with a game-high 24 points.

Central State resumes SIAC play on Saturday at Tuskegee.

The CSU and WU campuses are separated by 0.5 miles. CSU was once a part of Wilberforce University before the schools officially split in the late 1940s.

Kailyn Nash, who leads the SIAC in scoring and in blocks, recorded her eighth double-double of the year and 16
th multi-block game of the year.

Dashanti Miller, who was named SIAC Player of the Week prior to Tuesday night's game, recorded her fourth straight game of 10 or more rebounds.
