Tuskegee tops Central State
WILBERFORCE, Ohio - The Central State Lady Marauders fell to the Tuskegee Golden Tigers, 66-56, on Monday night.
In a battle between SIAC West leading TU and second place CSU, the first ten minutes of play proved to be a defensive battle as the Golden Tigers took a slim 11-9 edge into the second quarter.
TU began to take advantage down low by outscoring CSU in the paint, 14-2, in the second frame. TU's paint presence led to a 28-23 lead at halftime.
The teams traded baskets throughout the third quarter with TU taking a 45-39 lead into the fourth period. CSU shooters struggled in the down the stretch as the team combined to make just two of 15 field goals.
As the fourth quarter CSU shooting woes continued, TU managed to jump up by as many as 13 and went on to the 10-point victory.
TU held a 42-24 edge in points in the paint and outscored the Lady Marauders, 33-11, in points of turnovers.
Four TU players scored in double-figures. Nadia Thorman-McKey led TU with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Kailyn Nash led CSU with 20 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Monday's loss drops CSU to 7-7 overall and 6-3 in the SIAC. TU improves to 13-3 on the season and 10-1 in conference play.
CSU hosts Kentucky State on Saturday.
