CSU medals in five events; women finish in seventh place while men place ninth
ROCK HILL, South Carolina - Competing in the SIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the first time since 2019, the Central State track & field team finished in the top-three in five events while the women finished in seventh place as a team while the men recorded a ninth place result.
The CSU women combined for 56.5 points while the men finished with 25 total points. Benedict College took home the women's title with 230 points and the men's title with 226.5.
The five CSU medals came by way of the women's 400 meter hurdles, long jump, high jump, 4 x 100 meter relays and 4 x 400 meter relays.
Kaylah Huston, who was named to the SIAC All-Conference Team, ran her best time of the outdoor season in the 400 meter hurdles with a pace of 1:02.84 to finish in second place.
Jaylin Bradshaw finished third in the long jump with a season-best mark of 5.54m (18'2.25"). All-SIAC high jumper
Reaghan Wakefield hit a height of 1.55m (5'1") for a third place finish.
The women's relay teams each recorded third place finishes while running their fastest times of the outdoor season. The 4 x 100m team of Huston, Kaprik Dawkins,
Renee Bruce, and Michael Addison crossed the finish line in 48.48.
Kaylee Lair, Bradshaw, Addison, and Huston ran a time of 3:58.95 in the 4 x 400m relay.
CSU's top performers from the outdoor season will now prepare to compete at the upcoming Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1895 and officially named The Penn Relay Carnival, the event has drawn top high school, college and world-class athletes from around the globe and has been the scene of numerous American and world records. The 2022 edition will once again bring the top athletes from around the globe as the next generation of superstars look to make their mark at Franklin Field. Over 100,000 spectators attend the event each year.
