CSU women & men take team titles at Louisville Urban League HBCU Indoor Classic



LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - The Central State University men's and women's track and field teams took home team championships at Friday's Louisville Urban League HBCU Indoor Classic 


Competing in the recently opened Norton Healthcare Sports in Learning Center, the CSU women accumulated 134 points. Kentucky State finished in a distant second place with 40 points followed by Lane's third place finish with 38 points.


The men's competition was close throughout the meet with CSU edging Lane for the top spot with 89 points to Lane's score of 83. Kentucky State finished in third with 72.


The Lady Marauders took first place in seven events. Kapri Dawkins won the 200 meter dash with a season-best pace of 25.66. Dawkins also won the 400m in 1:00.16. A'janae Cressey won the 60 meter hurdles with new season-best time of 9.53. Cressey also won the long jump (5.21m / 17"1.25) and the triple jump (11.16m / 36' 7.5). Reaghan Wakefield continued her success in the high jump with a first place jump of 1.55m (5.1"). The 4 x 400 meter relay team also earned first place points (4:10.12).


On the men's side, CSU finished in the top spot in four events. Isreal Williamson led a group of Marauders across the finish line with a first place run of 50.06 in the 400m. Christopher Chandler earned first place points for his team in the 3000m (10:00.68) and mile run (4:46.09). In contention for the title with Lane and Kentucky State going into the final race, the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Williamson, Hezekiah Reid, James Lacking and Juwan Rigby won the race and the overall team title for the Marauders with a time of 3:26.12.
