Lady Marauders fall to Bluefield State in final game of regular season
WILBERFORCE, Ohio - The Central State Lady Marauders lost to Bluefield State, 70-61, in Wednesday night's regular season finale.
The loss dropped CSU to 5-18 overall while BSU improved to 4-19 on the year.
After take a 14-13 lead after the first 10 minutes of play, BSU outscored CSU 21-12 in the second quarter to take a 35-25 lead at the break. BSU led by as many as 14 in the third quarter and took a 57-46 lead into the fourth period. CSU fought back and erased the deficit with a 13-2 run to tie the game. A
Layla Turner layin knotted the game up, 59-59, with 5:24 to go. BSU baskets by Londen Coleman and Katrina Davis put the Big Blue back up by five. BSU closed the game out on a 11-2 run to seal the nine pint victory.
BSU held a significant edge in three-point shooting, making 10 of 23 attempts from beyond the arc while CSU managed to make just three of 24 attempts from the perimeter. BSU also outscored CSU in points off of turnovers, 36-28.
Alexus Tucker led BSU offensively with 21 points. Coleman came off the bench to add 15 points and six rebounds.
Cathryn Jones finished with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals to lead CSU.
Diamond Phillips added 11 points and four assists.Â
CSU will spend the rest of the week preparing for the upcoming SIAC Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina. CSU will enter the tournament as a sixth seed and will play on Tuesday at 2:15 pm.
