T&F Weekend Recap: Wakefield & Rigby highlight Central State track & field's showing at University of Akron

Wakefield and Rigby lead CSU at Friday's Univerity of Akron Al Campbell Invite



AKRON, Ohio - The Central State University track and field team made the drive up Interstate-71 to compete at the University of Akron Al Campbell Invite on Friday.


Competing against a field that included NCAA Div. I programs in host Akron as well as Northern Kentucky, Youngstown State, Buffalo and Xavier, CSU placed among the top finishers in the women's high jump, women's long jump, women's and men's 60 meter dash, women's and men's 200 meter dash, and women's and men's 400 meter dash, and men's 4 x 400 meter relay.


CSU freshman Reaghan Wakefield tied a career mark and hit an NCAA preliminary qualifying mark in the high jump. Her leap of 1.68m (5'6") put her in second place as Wakefield was narrowly edged by Northern Kentucky's Julia Pohl.


Other top performers for the CSU women included:


Jaylin Bradshaw - LJ - 2nd Place - 5.22 (17" 1.5)
Renee Bruce - 60m - 6th Place - 8.17 (PR)
Kapri Dawkins - 200m - 6th Place - 26.09 (PR)
Renee Bruce - 200m - 9th Place - 26.52 (PR)
Kapri Dawkins - 400m - 8th Place - 59.38 (PR)



Juwan Rigby, a freshman from Freeport, Bahamas, paced the CSU men with a second place finished in the 60 meter dash (7.10) and a third place run with a season-best time of 22.51. The 4 x 400 meter relay team comprised of Isreal Williams, Demari Johnson, Hezekiah Reid and James Lacking came in second place with a season-best pace of 3:25.28.

CSU will travel to the HBCU Indoor Classic in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday. Kentucky State University will serve as the event host as competition will take place at the Norton Healthcare Sports in Learning Center.
