Lady Marauders defeat Albany State, 91-79

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Lady Marauders defeated the Albany State Golden Rams, 91-79, on Thursday night.

With the win, CSU climbs back to .500 at 5-5 overall while improving to 3-1 in SIAC play. ASU dropped to 4-7 on the year and 2-2 in the conference.

CSU held ASU to nine first quarter points while make all 10 free throws to take a 26-9 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. The teams played to an even score of 12-12 in the second quarter with CSU taking a 38-21 lead at half.
ASU stormed back into contention in the third quarter. The Rams managed to go to the line 19 times in the quarter and converted 17 attempts while outscoring CSU, 36-24, in the quarter.

Up by five entering the fourth, CSU was able to cling to a narrow lead throughout the final period. With the teams separated by a single possession, 80-77, with 2:27 left, CSU closed the game out on an 11-2 run which included making all six free throw attempts.

CSU had a pair of 20 point scorers in
Kailyn Nash and
Ciara Hardy. Nash finished with 23 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks. Hardy recorded 20 points along with four rebounds.
Naomi Shorts provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists.

ASU was led by Ka'Shay Hankerson's 20 points and six rebounds. Kayla Miner added 14 points.

CSU will return to the floor at home on Saturday against Fort Valley State.
