Cold shooting Central State falls to Wayne State, 96-55
WILBERFORCE, Ohio – A poor shooting day led to a Central State lopsided loss to Wayne State, 96-55, on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Lady Marauders to 0-2 overall while the Warriors of Wayne State improved to 2-1.
The rims seemed to have a lid on them throughout the afternoon for CSU, which missed its first nine shot attempts and fell behind 24-12 at the end of the first quarter.
While CSU struggled, Wayne State took a commanding lead in the first half thanks to an efficient 17 of 34 shooting performance including seven makes on 15 attempts from three-point range. At the break, the Warriors led 49-22.
WSU upped its lead by outscoring CSU, 23-15, in the third quarter and remained in control, 72-37, heading into the fourth. With the game in hand, WSU and CSU emptied their benches with evert player on each roster logging minutes as the Warriors cruised to the 96-55 win.
WSU shot 36 of 69 (52.2%) for the game while CSU finished 23 of 78 (29.5%). WSU held advantages in points off turnovers (32-15), points in the paint (46-36), fast break points (15-6), and bench points (44-34).
WSU had a balanced scoring attack led by Shea Tripp's 15 points, six rebounds and five assists. Alyssa Leister finished with 13 points. Ashley Bower added 12 points and Maxine Moore scored 10 points.
CSU was paced by
Dashanti Miller's 17 points on eight of 12 shot attempts along with 12 rebounds.
Abbigail Peterson scored 13 points.
The Lady Marauders will return to the court at home on Monday against the University of California – Pennsylvania.
