Lady Marauders hang on to beat Spring Hill, 75-67


WILBERFORCE, Ohio - The Central State Lady Marauders built a double-digit lead in the second half and hung on late to beat Spring Hill, 75-67, on Monday night.


The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Lady Marauders, who improved to 3-12 overall with a 2-10 record in the SIAC. Spring Hill fell to 4-16 on the season and 2-8 in conference play.


CSU opened the first quarter on a 9-2 run and took a 22-13 lead into the second quarter. Spring Hill quickly erased the deficit thanks to 20 first half points by Tyashia Bostick. While Bostick found her shooting touch, CSU struggled to make just 3 of 21 field goals in the quarter and trailed 31-29 at half.


CSU came out of the lockerroom and quickly reseized momentum. Forward Kailyn Nash scored nine straight points for CSU to spark a 14-2 run. CSU went on to outscore SHC 26-12 in the third quarter and took a 55-43 advantage into the final 10 minutes of play.CSU led by as many as 16 in the fourth before an 18-5 run sparked by three-pointers from Bostick and Cassidy McDaniel brough Spring Hill back within contention. Clinging to a 64-61 lead with 3:57 to play, CSU managed to stay up thanks to timely free throws and offensive rebounding. CSU grabbed five offensive rebounds down the stretch to help drain time off the clock while managing to knock down seven free throws to earn the third win of the season.


The Lady Marauders grabbed 57 rebounds, including 26 on the offensive end. Spring Hill recorded 44 rebounds on the night and surrendered 24 second chance points to CSU. CSU made 22 of 38 free throws while SHC converted 10 of 15 attempts from the line.


Nash led CSU with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Dashanti Miller came off the bench to record 16 points and 15 rebounds. Laurene Tere finished the night with 14 points, five rebounds and four steals.


SHC was paced by Bostick's game-high 26 points. Brandy Lee added 13 points and Zareia Ector scored 11 points.


Central State will travel to play a non-conference game at Bluefield State on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
