Lady Marauders' season ends with 68-56 loss to LeMoyne-Owen


Lady Marauders lose to LeMoyne-Owen in SIAC quarterfinal

 
ROCK Hill, South Carolina – The Central State Lady Marauders lost to LeMoyne-Owen, 68-56, in Thursday's SIAC quarterfinals.
 

CSU ends the season with a 14-16 overall record while LOC advances to Friday's SIAC semifinal against Benedict.
 
 
CSU opened the game going three of 14 from the field and fell behind 18-8 by the end of the first quarter. LOC extended their lead to 18 by halftime and CSU was never able to fully recover.
 
 
LOC led as many as 21 in the second half. Three point shooting by Shania Kelly, Destiny Hawkins and Kenedi London helped CSU pull within 11 midway through the fourth quarter but the Lady Marauders unable to make a significant run as LOC held on for the win.
 
 
Playing with leading rebounder in 6'5 center Cameryn DuBose, CSU lost the battle of the boards, 46-31. LOC outscored CSU, 42-20, in the paint.
 
 
Lamontazia Blair went 13 of 26 from the field to lead LOC with a game-high 30 points.

 
CSU leading scorer Takyra Gilbert was held to five points while the team combined to turn the ball over 19 times while making just 20 of 55 shot attempts.
 
 
Kelly finished the game leading CSU with 12 points and five rebounds. No other CSU player scored more than eight.

CSU fails to advance to the SIAC semifinals for the first time since joining the SIAC in 2015.
 
 
CSU is 9-5 all-time in the SIAC Tournament
 
 
CSU senior guard Takyra Gilbert was named to the All-Conference 1st Team earlier in the week.
 
 
Gilbert led CSU in scoring (15.0 ppg), assists (4.1 apg) and steals (2.3 spg).
