CSU freshman Denisha Cartwright named Div. II South Region Indoor Athlete of the Year
 

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Central State University freshman Denisha Cartwright has been named the NCAA Division II South Region Indoor Athlete of the Year as announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
 

Cartwright, a freshman from Nassau, Bahamas, is currently the top ranked 60 meter hurdles in NCAA Div. II with a season-best time of 8.49. She ranks sixth nationally in the 60 meter dash with a pace of 7.48. This season she won event titles in the 60 meter hurdles four times and took first place in the 60 meter dash three times. She also appeared a national preliminary qualifier in the 200 meter dash, recording two wins in the event with a season-best time of 24.49.
 

Cartwright becomes the second CSU athlete to earn USTFCCCA Regional Athlete of the Year honors (Juan Scott).


Prior to the cancellation of NCAA championships due to health and safety precautions, Cartwright was scheduled to compete on the national stage in the 60 meter hurdles and 60 meter dash.

ABOUT THE NCAA DIV. II INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
 

This year's NCAA Div. II Indoor Track & Field Championships was scheduled to be held on March 13 and 14 in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Due to the public health threat association with COVID-19, the NCAA cancelled all winter and spring championships on March 12.
