Gilbert leads Lady Marauders to victory over Spring Hill

 
WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Lady Marauders beat Spring Hill, 72-63, on Saturday.
 

With the win, the Lady Marauders are now 8-13 overall with a 6-7 record in the SIAC. Spring Hill falls to 8-14 on the year with a 7-6 record in conference play.



CSU guard Takyra Gilbert got off to a hot start with 10 points in the first quarter as the Lady Marauders jumped out to a 21-15 lead. CSU outscored SHC, 18-13 in the second quarter to take a 39-28 lead at halftime.
 
 
Tiffany Valentine brought Spring Hill back with 10 points in the third quarter to help the Badgers cut the CSU deficit down to five entering the final 10 minutes of play.



Up by three with 5:12 to play, CSU took control as Kenedi London made her next two shots and Sandra Guilford converted on a put-back layup to give the Lady Marauders a 68-79 lead. CSU forced SHC into five turnovers in the final three minutes while converting four of six free throws to close out the game.
 
 
CSU recorded 14 steals and held a 29-8 edge in points scored off turnovers.
 
 
Gilbert finished with 21 points, six assists and three steals to lead CSU. Guilford finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Cameryn DuBose grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds along with six points and four steals.



Valentine led SHC with 21 points and 11 rebounds.




CSU hosts Tuskegee on Monday night.
