Gilbert leads Lady Marauders past Miles, 68-62

 
WILBERFORCE, Ohio – Central State senior Takyra Gilbert recorded her third straight home game of 20 or more points as CSU defeated Miles, 68-62, on Saturday.


With the win, the Lady Marauders improve to 10-14 overall with a 8-7 record in the SIAC. MC falls to 15-7 on the season with a 10-4 ledger in conference play.
 
 
CSU struggled from the field in the first half, making seven of 22 field goal attempts. Free throw line execution kept the Lady Marauders within striking distance as they made 11 of 14 attempts to go into the half trailing 32-27.
 
 
Trailing by eight with 4:57 to play in the third quarter, CSU went on a 12-2 run capped off by a Laurene Tere basket to take a 46-44 lead. MC added a basket and a free throw to take a 47-46 lead entering the fourth quarter.
 
 
In a back and forth fourth quarter, CSU jumped ahead with 3:23 to play and led by one with 1:15 to go. After coming up with a defensive stop, CSU went up by four as Gilbert converted on a three-point play with 35 seconds left. MC came up empty on its next offensive possession and the Lady Marauders closed the game with four straight free throws.
 
 
CSU finished the game making 27 of 35 free throws while MC made 14 of 25.
 
 
Gilbert led all players with 25 points and added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sandra Guilford and Shania Kelly added 8 points. Tere chipped in with seven points, five rebounds and three steals.
 
 
Najla Shamsid-Deen led MC scorers with 15 points.
 
 
CSU will host LeMoyne-Owen on Monday night.
