Central State celebrates 2018-2019 athletic accomplishments during annual banquet

The Central State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics hosted its annual Awards Banquet on Monday in recognition of the hard work of the student-athletes and coaches of each program.
 
Held in the University Center Ballroom, head coaches and administrators had the opportunity to reflect on the past season and honor each student individually.
 
Highlighting the evening were the winners of the CSU Athletic Department superlative awards.
 
Iesha Lockhart, a senior member of the track & field team, was named the 2019 President's Award recipient, given to the student-athlete who excels in his/her sport, in the classroom and in the community.
 
Jaeda Davis, a senior guard for the Lady Marauders, was named the Academic Student-Athlete of the Year, given to the upperclassman with the highest GPA of any Marauder student-athlete.
 
Junior Juan Scott earned Male Athlete of the Year after another dominant year during the indoor and ongoing outdoor track & field seasons. Up to this point in the season, Scott has won a combined eight events, including wins at Ohio State University and the SIAC Championships. Scott earned Indoor All-American honors for the third straight season and was named USTFCCCA South Region Athlete of the Year. Scott is currently projected to qualify for the NCAA Div. II National Outdoor Championships next month.
 
CSU point guard Takyra Gilbert was selected as the Female Athlete of the Year. Gilbert led the team in scoring. She was also selected to the SIAC All-Conference Team and SIAC All-Tournament Team.
 
Cedric Pearl was named the Theresa Check Coach of the Year after leading the Marauder football program to a 5-5 overall record and a second place finish in the SIAC West Division. Pearl developed five all-conference selections, the SIAC Newcomer of the Year (Kevin Greenhow), and one all-american (Kailen Abrams).
