Lady Marauders struggle in loss to No. 3 Grand Valley State

Lady Marauders unable to keep up with Grand Valley State
 

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Lady Marauders lost to nationally ranked Grand Valley State, 80-54, on Wednesday afternoon.
 
 
The loss drops CSU to 2-5 overall while GVSU improves to 6-0 on the season.
 
 
Ranked No. 3 in the WBCA National Poll, GVSU took control in the second quarter by outscoring CSU, 22-4, to take a 41-18 lead at halftime.
 
 
CSU trailed by as many as 32 in the third quarter and were unable to make a significant dent in the GVSU lead as the Lady Marauders dropped their third straight game.
 
 
GVSU was dominant in the paint, holding a 42-12 edge down low.
 
 
CSU did not have an answer for GVSU's 6'4 forward Cassidy Boensch, who finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.


 
Led by Boensch, GVSU converted 52.7% from the field compared to CSU's 30.8% shooting performance.
 
 
CSU's offense was paced by Takyra Gilbert's 18 points while Brooke Spaulding added 13 points. No other Lady Marauder scored more than six.
 
 
CSU will begin conference play next Monday at Savannah State.
