Central State freshman Brooke Spaulding named SIAC Newcomer of the Week


 
ATLANTA, Georgia - Central State freshman guard Brooke Spaulding has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (S-I-A-C) Newcomer of the Week.


 
The latest selection is the second consecutive week Spaulding has earned newcomer honors from the conference.


 
Spaulding, a graduate of Fairfield High School (Ohio), led the Lady Marauders to a 2-0 record last week as they defeated SIAC Western Division opponents Tuskegee and Miles. Spaulding finished the week with 30 points while adding eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals between the two games.


 
Spaulding currently averages 11.9 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.1 apg and 1.5 spg.


 
Clinching a No. 1 seed in the upcoming SIAC Tournament, CSU (21-5; 15-3) will begin play on Wednesday, Feb. 28. All tournament games will be held at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, Alabama
 
 


Notes

Spaulding is averaging 16.5 ppg since being inserted into the starting lineup on December 30^th.
 
CSU enters next week's SIAC Tournament as the top seed in the SIAC West Division. Earning a first round bye, CSU will play next Wednesday at 5:30 pm cst (6:30 pm est).
 
Spring Hill (20-6; 13-3) currently leads the SIAC West Division. SHC owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with CSU (2-0). SHC has two games remaining against SIAC opponents.
 
Due to Spring Hill's inability to participate in postseason play, CSU has clinched a No. 1 seed in the upcoming SIAC Tournament.

The 2018 SIAC Basketball Tournament is set to tip off on February 26, with the final scheduled for March 3. Bill Harris Arena and the Birmingham CrossPlex will host the tournament for the third time, with 13 teams vying for the SIAC crown.
