Lady Marauders struggle offensively in loss to Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, Michigan – The Central State Lady Marauders struggled to score in Monday afternoon's 73-50 loss to nationally ranked Grand Valley State.

The loss drops CSU to 4-8 overall while the No. 11 ranked GVSU Lakers improved to 9-1 on the year.

Early in the contest, both teams had difficulty finding their shooting range. CSU managed a narrow 12-10 lead after the first quarter. With the score knotted 17-17 with 5:41 left in the second quarter, the GVSU offense erupted with a 15-0 run. While GVSU began to take control, CSU made just one of ten shot attempts during the final five minutes of the opening half and trailed 34-20 at the break.

CSU shooting woes continued throughout the duration of the game. The Lady Marauders scored a meager 13 points in the third period while making six of 20 shot attempts. By the midway point of the fourth quarter, GVSU increased its lead to 30 and cruised to the eventual 23-point victory.

CSU converted just 28.8% of its shot attempts while GVSU finished with a 43.3% shooting performance. GVSU also outscored CSU in the paint, 32-20.

GVSU's Jenn DeBoer led all scorers with 21 points. Cassidy Boensch added 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Brooke Spaulding led the CSU scoring with 11 points.
Chervelle Cox finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Marauders will enter the holiday break before traveling to Augusta, Georgia to play Paine College on Dec. 31.
