Five CSU track & field athletes earn All-Ohio individual titles

Five Central State student-athletes crowned Div. II All-Ohio Track & Field Champions

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Members of the Central State University track & field team claimed the top spot in five events at the All-Ohio Championships held over the weekend.

Competing at Gettler Stadium on the University of Cincinnati campus, the CSU men and women held their own against Ohio colleges and universities from the Div. I, Div. II, Div. III and NAIA levels. 

Darin Gooch and Kyhra Hollins sparked excitement on Friday afternoon in the long jump and high jump. Gooch posted the best mark of any Div. II competitor in the long jump with a leap of 6.74 meters. Kyhra Hollins led all Div. II participants with a mark of 1.47 meter in the high jump.

On Saturday, freshman distance runner Emmanuel Birgen topped all Div. II competitors with a pace of 16:01.27 in the 5000 meter run.

The most impressive CSU performances  came from Gooch and Juan Scott. Gooch beat out runners from Miami (OH) and Cincinnati with a time of 21.70 to take the top spot in the 200 meter dash. Scott ran a time of 14.00 to win the 110 meter hurdles over two Ohio State runners. With Saturday's performance in the 110 hurdles, Scott jumped up to fourth on the NCAA Div. II qualifying list.

CSU will return to competition next Saturday when they travel to Ohio State University for the Jesse Owens Invitational.
