Juan Scott and Darin Gooch impress at Ohio State University
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Freshman
Juan Scott and senior
Darin Gooch delivered impressive performances while competing at the Ohio State University Tune-Up Invitational on Friday night.
Juan Scott picked up his fifth win of the indoor season in the 60 meter hurdles. Scott posted his best time of his young collegiate career, winning the event with a time of 7.95.
The freshman from Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio reflected on his performance.
"I was determined to have a good start and running a clean race," Scott said. "I was pleased to break 8 seconds but I have to stay focused on improving."
Coach Rollins, who specializes in hurdles, said his star freshman can be even better.
:"Juan has embraced our program and has been extremely successful thus far," Rollins said. "We are pleased with his progress, but he still has a lot of work to do to fulfill his full potential."
The school record in the 60 meter indoor hurdles was set by Ricardo Melbourne with a time of 7.75 in 2003. Coach Rollins is optimistic of Scott's chances to surpass that mark.
"By continuing to work hard and stay dedicated, I am confident Juan can establish himself as one of the best hurdlers in our program's rich history."
While Scott has provided a youthful spark to the track team, senior Darin Gooch continues to be a consistent performer for Coach Rollins. Gooch placed 5th in the long jump with a leap of 6.47. He picked up the win in the 200 meter dash with  a pace of 22.94.
Consisting of Scott, Kamren Parrin, Ja'Vonte Brown and Baron Wilson, the men's 4 x 400 team finished second, crossing the finish line at 3.19.22.
The team will anxiously await to see who will qualify for the NCAA Div. II National Championships. Scott's time of 7.95 places him 4th in the nation among 60 meter hurdlers. The 4 x 400 relay team is currently 19th with a season best 3.16.19.
