Lady Marauders beat Lane for fifth straight win

Lady Marauders beat Lane, 69-46, for fifth straight victory

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Lady Marauders cruised 23-point victory over Lane College on Thursday night.

With the win, the Marauders improve to 6-2 overall with a 3-0 mark in SIAC play. The Dragons remain winless at 0-7 overall and 0-3 ledger in the conference.

CSU outscored LC 16-10 in the first quarter and 17-14 in the second to take a 9 point lead at halftime.

CSU seized full momentum in the third quarter as sophomore guard Takyra Gilbert hit back-to-back three-pointers in the midst of a 13-2 run, giving the Lady Marauders a 54-34 lead entering the final 10 minutes of play. CSU took its largest lead of the night, 65-39, on a Brooke Spaulding basket with 5:48 remaining and coasted to a 69-46 victory.

Gilbert led all scorers with 24 points. Falon Edwards finished the night with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Destinee Russell, who made her first start of the season, finished with game-highs in rebounds (12) and steals (6).

CSU recorded 16 steals and held a 29-8 edge in points scored off turnovers.

The Lady Marauders will try to stay undefeated in conference play when they host LeMoyne-Owen on Saturday at 1 pm.

CSU leads the SIAC in scoring ( 79.1 ppg ), assists (13.5 apg), offensive rebounding (18.0 orpg) and steals (13.8 spg).

Destinee Russell's 12 rebounds on Thursday is a new career-high for the senior from Detroit, Mich.

CSU played without All-SIAC Pre-Season selection Sierra Harley on Thursday. Harley is expected to return to the lineup on Saturday.

Takyra Gilbert, a transfer from Cincinnati State Community College, is the reigning SIAC Newcomer of the Week.

Gilbert recorded her third game of scoring 20 or more points this season.
