CSU guards lead the way in 88-73 win over Saint Augustine's
 
WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina – Central State backcourt trio of Takyra Gilbert, Jaeda Davis and Sierra Harley combined for 52 points to lead the Lady Marauders past the Saint Augustine's Falcons, 88-73, on Sunday.
 
With the win, the Lady Marauders improve to 3-2 on the year. The Falcons dropped to 3-2 overall.
 
Gilbert finished the afternoon with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Davis recorded 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Harley was an efficient 5 of 6 from the three-point line to finish with 15 points.
 
While the trio of CSU guards combined for 52 points, senior forward Chavon Banks continues to play with confidence. Banks led all rebounders with 8 on Sunday to go along with 16 points and 4 steals.
 
The Lady Marauders converted 50% (11-22) from beyond the arc compared to the Falcons' three-point performance of 38.5% (5-13). CSU out-rebounded SAU, 45-39 and held a 17-9 advantage in second chance points. CSU also forced 22 SAU giveaways to gain a 28-17 edge in points scored off turnovers.
 
CSU will begin conference play when they host Albany State next Saturday at 1 pm.


Notes
Sunday's game was part of the Red & White Basketball Classic. All games were played on the campus of Winston-Salem State.

CSU went 2-0 at the Red & White Classic with wins over Winston-Salem State and St, Augustine's

After a lackluster 2-point performance in the opening game of the season, Gilbert has bounced back by averaging 20 ppg over the last four games.

A transfer from Cincinnati State, Gilbert is the reigning SIAC Newcomer of the Week.

Sierra Harley remains the team's top scorer while converting over 50% from three-point range.

Sunday was the first meeting between CSU and SAU since the 2009-2010 season.
